New York Giants - Super Bowl Champs and I win my first Super Bowl pool !!

Hope everyone is having a great week and are all set for the weekend.

Well the Giants won the Super Bowl on Sunday, even though I'm a Jets fan through and through, i could not help but get completely excited about the game, what a nail biter!!

Truth be told, winning $125 in a super bowl pool was an incredible experience, my first win....EVER.

I was so riveted to the third quarter that I did not even look at my numbers until less than two minutes remaining in the quarter.

Fear not, my friends gently reminded me that a Giants win was more important for the 4th quarter, but it was fun while it lasted :)

I have my earnings already spent, Pandora here I come!! There are two charms that I am going to get - Together Forever and a Pink Cubic Zirconia drop charm with a pearl.

Hope everyone had a great week, sorry that I have not posted anything before today, weekends are for catching up on my blog work, so here it is.....

The Giants are a win away from being the Super Bowl champions, but the Patriots are going to give everything they have tomorrow to stop that from happening in Indianapolis.

Eli Manning and Big Blue have their work cut out for them, but Tom Brady and the Patriots are sure to have all due respect for their opponent.

On to baseball...... Jose Reyes is now a Miami Marlin and had his trademark dreadlocks sheared off, what a difference in his appearance!!!

Mets pitchers and catchers will report in two weeks to Port St Lucie Florida, hopefully the distraction of the team's finances will not take away from the baseball preparation and team bonding that occurs during Spring Training.

The New York Giants are gearing up in San Francisco for the Championship game to determine who will be the NFC team in the Super Bowl two weeks from today.

Standing in the way of that goal are the San Francisco 49ers, it should be a great game tonight. As far as who they would be facing, that will be determined today in Foxborough, Massachusetts with the New England Patriots hosting the Baltimore Ravens.

As far as baseball news, Mets pitchers and catchers will be reporting to Port St Lucie, Florida a month from now, I personally cannot wait to see our new acquisitions and how the team plays minus Jose Reyes. With a healthy Ike Davis and David Wright, the middle of the batting order should be powerful, its the pitching that honestly scares me, hopefully the return of Johan Santana will bring some stabilization to the starting rotation.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We had two parties, Elvis's birthday party at our Boat Club and a friend's post holiday/early birthday party. Our contribution to both of these events was baked ziti, everyone loved it but I am done with the whole pasta/cheese combo for at least two weeks.

Well the New York Giants shut down the Atlanta Falcons yesterday afternoon, but their next opponent is the Green Bay Packers. Even though they are the obvious underdog, I am still hopeful about Big Blue's chances this coming Sunday.

Being that the New York Mets are in such an obvious state of financial ruin, the fact that RA Dickey is climbing Mt Kilimanjaro is one of the biggest news item this week for the team.

Hope everyone had a wonderful week and has great plans for this weekend.

The New York Giants need a big win this weekend over the Atlanta Falcons in order to make it past the wildcard stage of the postseason.

As a Jets fan, I am disappointed that my team did not do well enough to even make the wildcard games, but as a New Yorker, I will be cheering on Big Blue this weekend.

You see, I cannot root for the Yankees in the postseason because I cannot stand their fans, surrounded by many of them at work., being a Mets fan in New York is a tough deal

However, I do not have any bad feelings towards Giants fans and do cheer them on as long as they are not playing my Jets.

Lets Go G-Men!!!

2011 Year in Review

Today is a day to reflect on the past year and to look forward to the year that begins tonight at midnight.

Here is my 2011 in a nutshell:

1) Incredible trip to Ireland in February
2) My mother's illness - its been a rough year for her (and me for that matter) so I hope that 2012 will be better.
3) Tough year for friendships but I was able to sort out who my friends are and who are not and will never be important in my life.
4) Another brutal year for my beloved NY Mets - I hope 2012 is better but somehow I am not optimistic.
5) Full year of my husband being unemployed, its been a challenge but we are doing our best, we are both hoping that 2012 will find him employed once more.
6) Induction in to Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society was an incredible experience, three more years and my degree should be complete.
7) My mother bought me a Pandora bracelet and I already have a few charms, love it and being able to personalize it for my life is definitely a bonus - how incredible is it that my first charm was a football helmet?
8) The biggest surprise of the year came last weekend from my husband who bought me a Nook Tablet - i'm totally hooked and can't wait to use it for vacation in June.
9) The love of my family and friends is something so precious to me, we had some incredible times this year as always and I look forward to our gatherings in 2012 and beyond.
10) Last but certainly not least, you my readers and followers, I appreciate your company and look forward to hearing from you on what you would like to read about in the coming year. I love you all.

Getting ready for 2012

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas or Hanukkah, my long weekend was very busy but filled with loving family. Santa was very good to me, brought me a Nook Tablet so if anyone can recommend or lend me a book, I would greatly appreciate it. Having a lot of fun with it so far, my 13 year old nephew Justin got received the Kindle Fire so comparing features with him was a great bonding experience.

Yesterday, I met my newest cousin, Katherine Chenot Wendle, we got along great, I enjoyed holding her and watching her study me and listen to my voice.

She is five weeks old, actually she and I are two days apart in our birthdays so I will never forget when hers is, for the rest of my life.

Like I have mentioned in the past, I am not a New Years Resolution believer but I do believe in starting the New Year with a fresh slate and a better attitude, for whatever that is worth, but it does have meaning to me.

Well the Giants beat up on the Jets last Saturday, helping the Giants chances of advancing to the postseason, while at the same time, making it next to impossible for the Jets to make it to the playoffs, but stranger things have happened, so there is always a chance.

Giants and Jets both lose, who's ready for Christmas?

Well the Giants and Jets were both losers today, making their postseason bids look less likely, but you never know, stranger things have happened, but fans could not be encouraged by either game's performances.

The Mets are slowly but surely working on making roster changes, pitchers and catchers start in Port St Lucie, Florida in two months.

Its hard to believe that next Sunday is Christmas Day, time sure does fly. I am done with my final and now have a month without homework or quizzes, for that I am very thankful, the mental break is much needed this time of year.

Gifts are starting to get wrapped, cards are being mailed out gradually and baking supplies have been purchased, so I would say that I am as ready for Christmas as I could expect to be at this point.

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend, how is everyone doing with their Holiday preparation? Our shopping is almost done, cards are going out gradually and decorating is on its way. I take my final next weekend, cant wait, then I will have a week to finalize my holiday preparations.

Last night, Brian and I went into NYC on Metro North, first time in about 6 years, loved it. A friend of mine had told me about Santacon but I honestly did not know much about it, and upon our arrival into Grand Central Terminal there were literally hundreds of Santa Clauses, what an awesome experience!!

We walked up 5th avenue, made our way through the crowds surrounding Rockefeller Center, but we did get some good pictures, i will post some soon, promise. As much as I am not a fan of crowds and being pushed around, you cant help but get excited when you see that you are part of the big picture that is NYC at Christmastime.

Cookie baking has been a Christmas Eve tradition of mine for as long as i can remember and this year will be no different. I am planning to make Toll House cookies, yumm, my favorite and some kind of thumbprint cookie with either Hershey's Kisses or Raspberry Jam in the center.

I am very excited for football today with my beloved Jets taking on the Chiefs today in NJ and the Giants taking on the Cowboys tonight in Texas, should be two great games.

On Sunday the New York Jets squeaked by the Buffalo Bills, what a game, very exciting to the last few seconds, it truly was anyone's game until it was over. Mark Sanchez tied a team record by throwing four touchdown passes, but his in-game decision making leaves a lot to be desired. This weekend they take on the Washington Redskins in Washington, should be a great game.

As expected, the New Orleans Saints blew out the New York Giants with their offense, it was not even close. Eli Manning and company have their work cut out for them this week as they prepare to take on the undefeated Green Bay Packers.

In baseball news, the Winter Meetings will be held next week in Dallas, should be a lot of deals in the making next week, I will keep everyone up to date on the Hot Stove happenings for the Mets. It was announced this afternoon that Nick Evans has signed a Minor League deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, I wish him well, when the Mets needed him to fill in for an injured player, he was always more than willing to do his part, he will be missed.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoying the beautiful weekend.

What I am the most thankful for this weekend:

1) Loving and amazing husband- Loves me more than anything
2) Hilarious family who accepts me for who I am - no questions asked
3) Having the freedom to go shopping with my mother and can fully justify all of my purchases
4) The joy of cooking - helping my husband's 80 year old aunt cook and clean up after was very much appreciated by my family.
5) Looking forward to more decorating and shopping for Christmas, I just love to see the smiles on the faces of my loved ones when they open a gift that I gave them.
6) The fact that so many people were injured in Black Friday events was very sad, but I am glad that neither myself of any member of my family was directly affected by the craziness after Thanksgiving
7) I have a job and the opportunity to further my education - six more classes and an Associates Degree is earned. Many people may not understand why a 40 something year old woman getting her Associates Degree is a big deal, but if nothing else, my blood , sweat and tears during this process will at least net me Alpha Beta Gamma Honors Society vestments.

Now we just have to hope for big wins this weekend by Big Blue and Gang Green!!!

Jets and Giants both losers, not much hope for NY football this year

Hope everyone is well and that you are ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I actually started some shopping already, and Brian has a promising job prospect, went for 2nd interview today, fingers and toes are firmly crossed.

Well, the Jets and Giants both lost this week and things are looking grim for both Big Blue and Gang Green with only six games remaining for the season. That is one big difference between baseball and football, baseball has 162 games but football only has 16 games in their season, the losses are harder to take, especially when they could have been avoided, as was the case with both teams this week.

The Mets still have not made substantial progress in securing Jose Reyes for 2012, i'm not sure it will happen but as much as I want Jose to be a Met, I do not want the Mets to get into further financial difficulty in the process.

What are your plans for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday? Brian, my mother and I are going to our aunt's house in Sussex county, NJ, lots of food, family fun and of course football and laughter.

Would love to hear your plans if you are so inclined to share.

Offseason of Uncertainty for the Mets

Image via WikipediaHope everyone is having a great weekend so far, beautiful here in New York, drastic change from last weekend's noreaster storm that caused major damage to so much of the tri state area. We had so many trick or treaters that we needed to disconnect our doorbell before 7:45pm, an absolute first. This was most likely a result of neighboring areas cancelling their trick or treat, so families travelled to our family friendly neighborhood, it was an awesome thing to see.

Well the Hot Stove is certainly heating up for Major League baseball, some teams have already made some trades and signings but the only announcement that the Mets have made so far is the change in dimensions that should help HR totals increase.

This is both a good and bad thing, the good news is for the offense who will not be as nearly frustrated with long fly ball outs or doubles that would be HR anywhere else. The bad part is for the Mets pitchers who give up a lot of HR's as it is, this will only make things worse.

The first order of business is offering Jose Reyes a contract, if he declines, then move on to other needs, such as Catcher, Pitcher (both starting and bullpen) and decide if Angel Pagan will be the centerfielder or is that another spot that needs to be filled via Free Agency or Trade.

It should be an interesting winter, and who will be wearing Mets Blue and Orange this spring will be a mystery until after the holidays.

HS Reunion and The World Series is over, let the Roster Roulette begin!!!

Congrats to the St Louis Cardinals for their World Series Championship last night, quite an exciting series, I do feel bad for the Rangers, two consecutive years they made it to the World Series and came away empty, but they are clearly the best team in the American League, quite an accomplishment.

Last weekend we were on Staten Island to visit with my mother and see some of my friends from HS, had a wonderful time. Here is a group pic with Brian getting in with the gang, he is getting to know and like my friends from High School, glad to see, they are still very important to me almost 30 years later.

Now that the 2011 season has fully concluded for baseball, the offseason of transactions can officially begin, it should be a very active winter for the Mets as they try to put a better team on the field in 2012.

World Series about to begin, then its time to make some deals

Hope everyone is well, not feeling so good today, stayed home from work, hopefully nothing more than a flu bug.

Well the World Series starts tonight in St Louis, should be very interesting, to say the least. As a National League fan first and foremost, I am of course hoping that the Cardinals win, but I would be remiss if I did not mention that this is the second consecutive season that the Rangers are playing in the World Series.

My prediction: Cardinals in six games

After the World Series is over, the Free Agency market will be in full gear, with incumbent teams given a 5 day exclusive negotiation period with their potential free agents.

Playoff Fever and First Mall of America weekend

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their weekend.

Well the Yankees and Phillies were both eliminated during the Championship Series, and for that I am thrilled, more about the former because of working in close proximity to so many arrogant Yankee fans who always say "talk to me when your team has 26 rings".

Personally, I am pulling for the Tigers and Brewers to make it to the World Series as I am not a Cardinals fan in the least and the Rangers were in the Series last year, seeing some different teams always makes October interesting as a baseball fan.

Tomight, my hubby took me to our favorite local Mexican Restaurant, followed by a trip to the first Mall of the United States, which I did not know until this evening.

Hey everyone,

Sorry that I have been an absentee blogger, trying to get back in the swing of things with schoolwork added to my schedule. I'm taking an online World Geography class this semester, not my first choice (Wednesday night Cultural Anthropology) but it was either that or take yet another semester off (took off last spring - well worth it).

The Mets season ended yesterday with a win and Jose Reyes won the NL Batting Title, for which I am very proud. However, the part of him coming out of the game in the first inning did not sit well with many fans, but at the end of the day, it was his decision to make, Terry Collins obliged his star player, and thats all fans really need to know.

Mets fans can take comfort in the fact that both the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves collapsed the last month of the season, ahhh the memories of September 2007 for the Mets will always leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Now we wait and see who Sandy Alderson keeps and who he trades and releases to Free Agency. Jose Reyes would like to stay a Met but being that baseball is a business, money and contract length will both need to be negotiated in the coming weeks and months.

The Mets need pitching, first and foremost, so depending on payroll flexibility, Alderson may need to get creative with trades in order to secure a stable pitching rotation and bullpen, which was one of the most disappointing aspects of the 2011 season.

In the coming days, I will be posting a review of a product, and of course I will keep everyone posted on Mets/Jets current events.

As easy as it is to be bitter about the Mets being officially eliminated from post season play and their sloppy loss last night, the fact is that baseball is a game, and needs to be kept in perspective. The Mets and Cubs will complete their weekend series tonight on national TV with a ceremony occurring prior to the start of the game.

Fans are blaming Bobby Parnell (blown save) and David Wright (two errors, the second of which led to 2 unearned runs in the 9th inning) mostly for yesterday's loss but the fact always remains that you win as a team and lose as a team, pointing fingers will not change the final score.

The fact that the Mets were held scoreless until the bottom of the 8th inning had as much to do with the loss as the two unearned runs in the top of the 9th.

Here is a link to a You Tube video of Alan Jackson and his song writing in the days following the attacks. We have seen Alan Jackson perform live and it never fails to move me when I see him sing this song with the video showing behind him.

How is everyone doing this week?

Its been an eventful few days, especially here in NY, we are preparing for Hurricane Irene, I hope everyone remains safe and secure in their homes, should be a wild weather weekend.

We are going to the see the Mets play the Braves this Saturday, will post pictures next week. Jose Reyes played his first rehab game tonight in Binghamton, it is hoped that he will return to the Mets before Monday's doubleheader with the Marlins.

Meanwhile David Wright was put on waivers but has not yet been claimed according to Mets officials, contrary to what was stated in the Denver Post about him being claimed by the Colorado Rockies.

If Wright was sent to the Rockies, it would break a lot of hearts here in New York, but any team who he would go to would benefit from the transaction.

Hi everyone, hope you are having a great week, I am on vacation, started this afternoon, so life is very good.

Well the Mets had a rough homestand but David Wright is now the Mets leader in Total Bases, besides being the current Doubles leader, he is working his way through the major offensive categories in Mets history.

With all of the injuries the Mets have sustained, a serious one to Wright included, its great to see career milestones being recognized by the fans.

It is unknown if Wright will catch Mike Piazza and Darryl Strawberry for the HR/RBI titles but one record that Wright may once again own is Hits.

Before Wright participated in the 2006 HR Derby, no one thought that he would even be considered to be possibly 3rd in Mets franchise history.

He is currently 53 behind teammate Jose Reyes and 208 behind the current owner, Ed Kranepool. With Reyes and Wright not expected to be leaving the Mets anytime soon, they could very well be the owners of the 1 and 2 spots in Mets history.

The Mets are 10.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wildcard but it will be fascinating to see how Wright, Reyes (currently on his 2nd DL stint of this season), and the other young Mets handle any potential postseason push, or at least play well enough to be spoilers.

How is everyone? Hope all is well and you are enjoying your summer so far, only a month left before kids back to school, if they are not back before then, but I return to class the Wednesday after Labor Day.

Well the Mets are once again bitten by the injury bug, as if losing two of three to the Atlanta Braves is not painful enough, Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy were both injured during yesterday's game, Reyes for at least two weeks and Murphy is done until Spring Training.

Ike Davis is also likely done until Spring Training as well as there has not been enough improvement in his ankle, the Mets medical staff needs to seriously be re-evaluated this off season. Yes, its a game and injuries do happen to all teams, but it seems that the Mets players are out longer with injuries than many other teams.

With about 50 games remaining of the season, the Mets are in the position to be spoilers and not much else. However this season has been a change from previous years because no matter how many runs they are down in a given game, these guys dont give up, they fight until the last out. very refreshing to see from the Mets.

Well the Mets have traded Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants for pitching prospect Zach Wheeler. This came as no shock as Beltran has been quite vocal (unusually so) about going to a contender, especially the Giants after manager Bruce Bochy hand picked him for the All Star game.

I do wish him well, however I would be lying if I said I will miss him as he was never a favorite of mine, always came across selfish and aloof, never warmed up to him. Part of the reason for this is that we were in the stands for 2006 NLCS Game 7 which saw Beltran stand there not moving for three straight pitches from Adam Wainwright to end the Mets season.

Enough of that, he is a Giant now, good luck, Carlos. Since David Wright returned to the Mets lineup last weekend, he has been incredible, multi hit games, HR's and RBI's galore, it does make you wonder how long he played with the fracture in his back.

Since Wright's return the Mets have a record of 5-2, which would have not likely been possible without significant contributions from Wright, they have been team efforts and he has done more than pull his weight during these games.

Yes he has had some defensive hiccups, but his overall effort this week, hitting cleanup and playing full games for the first time in over two months, has been quite impressive, and there is no question his leadership and presence has kept the Mets above .500 this week.

There are less than 60 games left, and the Mets have a decent chance of at least Wild Card contention that may be decided the last week of the season. With a record of 54-51, they are in the thick of things, not necessarily to catch the Phillies but to be a factor in late September baseball, in other words, they are very much relevant and playing meaningful baseball for the first time in three years.

As bad of a start as the Mets had along with the injuries sufferered, I think any Mets fan would have signed up for this level of play in July.

How is everyone? Hope everyone is surviving this brutal heat wave.

Well the Mets are staggering towards the trade deadline next week with Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran returning to the lineup tonight and hoping that David Wright will join the team on Friday in Miami.

Ike Davis is likely done for the season and is looking to be fully recuperated from his ankle injury for next year.

Its really incredible the amount of "fans" who are blaming David Wright for Ike Davis's injury, it was a collision on a infield pop up, there was no intent of malice and they are conveniently forgetting that Davis hit Wright from behind, which only aggravated Wright's aching back.

Carlos Beltran will more than likely be traded by next week, with Philadelphia, Boston and San Francisco being the most aggressive in pursuit.

As a Mets fan, I sincerely hopes that he either goes to Boston or San Francisco rather than to a division rival, it could get very ugly for the Mets if he is in a position to end their season abruptly.

Hope everyone is having a great week, very glad that tomorrow is Friday, weekends come around so slow when there is a short week.

Well its official, Jose Reyes has been put on the DL for his hamstring, and will join David Wright, Ike Davis and Johan Santana as hopeful returns for early August.

I have to give an enormous amount of credit to Terry Collins and the Mets who have done an incredible job this season of banding together despite the injuries to the key players and staying above .500, a milestone which seemed unlikely a few weeks ago.

Last year at this time, everyone was anxiously awaiting the return of Carlos Beltran, along with Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo (ok maybe anxiously is not the correct word, smh) when the second half started last July. However, things went very sour in late June and the Mets were out of contention in August.

There were some fans who feared that the returns of Davis, Wright and Santana would throw off the team's winning chemistry, but I do believe that their returns will help refresh this team that has been battling through all kinds of adversity.

That does not kill us makes us stronger, of that I am sure, if the baseball gods did not think the 2011 Mets could endure these injuries, they would not have been put through this test that has been May and June of 2011.

How is everyone doing this July 4th weekend? Its been an eventful weekend for me already, fireworks and fried oreos at our Boat Club on Friday night and a family bbq at my aunt's house in NJ, had an awesome time.

Well its official, Jose Reyes has overtaken Troy Tulowitzki in All Star Voting and will be the starting shortstop for the NL, provided his hamstring injury from yesterday does not put him out of commission.

Carlos Beltran was chosen by San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy to be a reserve centerfielder for the National League.

David Wright's 5 year streak of representing the Mets came to a grinding halt thanks to his slow start, mainly due from the stress fracture in his back that has kept him on the DL since May 15.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their weekend so far.

As usual the Mets season is riddled with injuries, I was hoping that a change in management would bring these guys some relief from devastating injuries, but so far that has not happened. Yes, I realize that injuries are part of the game but it just seems that the Mets are in the midst of very damaging injuries.

Ike Davis has not progressed as hoped so he will continue to be shut down for another three weeks and he could possibly be facing microfracture surgery on his ankle.

David Wright has been cleared to resume full exercise which will lead to him resuming baseball activities, so best case scenario is that he returns to the team the last week of July, but an August return is more likely.

Johan Santana has resumed his thowing sessions after some soreness earlier this month so he is also a possible return for August.

Chris Capuano is the latest injury victim with some abdominal pain, he is not expected to miss his next start, but with the way the Mets luck has been going, injury wise, I would not be shocked to see him put on 15 day DL.

It bears repeating that the players who have been filling in for the everyday players should be commended for their professionalism and commitment to a team who is obviously hurting for their players to come back, its not an easy predicament but they are fully aware that they are getting their chance because of injuries.

Well the Mets reached the .500 milestone the other night, only to lose a heartbreaker in the 10th inning last night in Atlanta.

K-Rod blew a save and DJ Carrasco balked in the winning run, yes, I repeat, a balk is what decided the game - the Braves did nothing to earn the win, to be honest, if I was a Braves fan, I would not be proud of the way my team won, it was a sloppy game all around.

One thing is very true about the 2011 Mets, they do have a lot more fight in them this year than in previous years and I do think that Terry Collins is doing an exceptional job as Manager.

When Ike Davis, David Wright and Johan Santana return to the roster, it will be interesting to see who will be demoted to the Minors or traded by the end of the year to make room for them.

Last season, the Mets played incredibly well in the first half only to tank in the July and August after Carlos Beltran, Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo returned to the roster. It was like their return deflated the whole team, not to mention they were no shows at Walter Reed Veterans Hospital.

As well as the Mets are playing right now, the returns of Davis, Santana and Wright should be a boost to morale, and it should make them a team to at least be in Wild Card contention this September instead of playing out a meaningless season.

First of all, hope everyone is having a great week, trying to stay cool at this early stage of summer.

What else can I say about Jose Reyes and his contributions to the Mets this season? He is definitely making his bid to show value to both Mets and other teams that may pursue him this winter during Free Agency.

The Mets need Ike Davis and David Wright to be in serious contention but I do give credit to the whole team for playing well this first half.

Hey there everyone, hope all is well, sorry for being an absentee blogger but we enjoyed our week long vacation in beautiful and sunny Fort Lauderdale and southern Florida.

Brian and I needed the vacation badly, it was a quality bonding time away, just the two of us - something that has not happened in two years.

All the more important reason is its been very stressful for both of us to have quality time together with him being out of work for nearly a year.

All day long he is applying for jobs and networking, and when I come home, I have to be careful not to "rub it in" so to speak about my day, he's depressed enough, I know that i'm fortunate to be employed so I try hard not to complain.

There will be pictures to follow, I promise, but the highlight for me was holding a 3 year old Alligator in the Everglades, it was incredible.

Brian took a few pictures, the $5 investment that was well worth the experience. It does help to pay for the care and development of these animals.

No worries,the alligator's snout was secured, I was so anxious to be able to hold it in my arms, it felt like a heavy tire, very rubbery and strong, and we truly have a greater respect for these incredible creatures after this visit.

Meanwhile in Mets land, it looks like the Mets will not be having the services of Ike Davis and David Wright until after the All Star Break after they were both told this week that three weeks on inactivity is what their respective injuries need at this time.

I hope everyone enjoys their day and I will post pictures of our vacation.

Underappreciation by Employers - Its everywhere these days

As you all know, my husband has been out of work since September, with no promising leads at this point. Its frustrating for him, but I know that he does realize that even the employed people are unhappy these days with how management is treating the average worker - his wife included, but thats another post.

Fred Wilpon, the owner of the Mets, made some comments during a game last month about his team and its players that have a lot of people talking and debating the intent and damage of his remarks.

While it is true that the Mets have not achieved anything but overwhelming embarrassment since Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS, Fred Wilpon is as much to blame as any of his players or coaches since he has not provided the funding to actively pursue the real "difference makers" for his team.

Mike Francessa of WFAN sports radio has been saying today that Wilpon's statements are not damaging at all, MLB owners and GM's are more knowledgeable and have resources handy to make their own assessments of a player's value.

Yes, this is true to a point, however the fact that he is calling his own team "snakebit" and other derogatory words is not a way to lure prospective free agents and players who would normally consider lifting their no trade clause this year.

Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran will be Free Agents at the end of the year, and honestly, I do not see either of them remaining New York Mets after this year, but they have both been around long enough to have made impressions on any potential team that may be needing their services.

David Wright is currently on the Disabled List with a stress fracture in his lower back, and under team control through 2012, but Wilpon did point out that Wright is "not a superstar". If you ask me, that is a kick in the face to the undisputed Face of the Franchise and 5 time All Star.

This is the ultimate in unappreciative behavior towards someone who bleeds blue and orange and has done everything this organization has asked of him. Yes he has had his struggles, no question, but the fact is that Wright has been a faithful warrior who always puts his team ahead of himself, and that has to go a long way in management's eyes.

Time will tell how these comments will affect these players and their teammates for the remainder of the year, but it definitely will give these guys pause to know that their management does not value them as much as they may have thought before this season.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, we had a terrific day yesterday, college graduation luncheon and TSO concert, incredible performance.

It has been reported that former Montreal Expos and New York Mets catcher Gary Carter has been diagnosed with four brain tumors.

Carter was inducted into the Hall of Fame after an incredible career and co-captaining the Mets to the 1986 World Championship.

It was my privilege to meet with Gary Carter in 1986 in downtown Manhattan for his book signing, very nice man, I do regret not getting his picture.

As far as current roster news, Angel Pagan should be returning to the Mets lineup sometime this week, Ike Davis is still not running yet and David Wright has not yet been cleared for baseball activities.

Here is to hoping that the Mets take today's rubber game against the Yankees.

Sorry for being a absentee blogger, its been a crazy week to put it mildly.

Hope everyone had a great week and is ready for the weekend.

The Mets and Yankees face off this weekend in the Bronx for Part I of the 2011 Subway Series.

Last year we attended the Friday night game at Yankee Stadium, it was incredible; the Mets won 4-0, and Yankee fans were nowhere to be found after the 6th inning.

Ike Davis and David Wright are on the Disabled List so the heart of the batting order and infield is making adjustments, but I have to say that so far I am impressed with the heart and professionalism of these young replacement players.

The two injuries are related to an extent but could not be more different in nature.

Ike Davis and David Wright collided attempting to catch an infield pop up and Davis sprained his ankle, and Wright wrenched his already sore back and now has a stress fracture in his lower back.

Angel Pagan will hopefully be returning to to the Mets next week after his rehab games this weekend, it should be an interesting decision to see who will leave once Pagan comes back, Scott Hairston or Willie Harris.

Injuries are a part of the game, no question, but it just seems that these type of "freak injuries" happen more to the Mets than most teams in baseball. You do have to wonder if the medical staff is taking all of the proper precautions in reducing the risk of injury. The injuries are being handled more timely this year than in previous years, not leaving these nagging injuries around long enough to do more damage than necessary.

The Mets played the Philadelphia Phillies last night on national TV, normally a recipe for disaster, however last night was different, they emerged winners in the 14th inning by a score of 2-1.

In the midst of this game, Osama Bin Laden was taken down by Navy Seals on their mission from President Barack Obama. It had to be some sight, Phillies fans and Mets fans chanting U-S-A, U-S-A in unison.

Tension between Phillies fans and Mets fans is an ever present situation, we have been to Philadelphia twice for the July 4th weekend in 2008 and 2009 and believe me when I say, the fans there are brutal to Mets fans, taunting and jeering, only the Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees gets uglier.

It was an incredible game, but to be honest the results were far less important than the fact that the mastermind behind the 9/11/01 attacks was brought to justice by losing his life and being buried at sea.

Avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Phillies was an incredible feat by the Mets, but last night's events put in to perspective that baseball is a game, entertainment, the safety of America and its allies and the sacrifices of innocent lives will always take center stage.

Johan Santana is on the Disabled List and could possibly not pitch again until July, and even then, no one knows how effective he will be, so unless Santana comes back and is the Ace of old earlier than expected, by default Mike Pelfrey is the number one starter in the rotation the first half of the season.

Several of the Mets players have been battling a stomach flu for the last week, with Pelfrey appearing to have the most severe case, not being able to eat more than one meal a day, he lost eleven pounds. Last night, he talked his way onto the mound, to his credit, he wanted the win against the Phillies and for the first four innings he was very effective.

However things went sour in the fifth inning, and now Terry Collins is expressing remorse at allowing Pelfrey to pitch without having proper rest until his strength has returned.

Needless to say, many fans are up in arms, demanding that Pelfrey be demoted to the Minor Leages since most of them had no confidence in him to begin with, its like some kind of vendetta to show their frustration at their Ace being on the Disabled List.

It is not Pelfrey's fault that the Mets acquired an Ace who would need surgery after each of the three seasons since he became a Met. Santana has such a sympathetic fan base, myself not included, who buys in to his "I did my job, my team did not get it done" attitude and feel that he is the victim of teammates who do not want to see him win so they are not trying their best.

This is ridiculous, but that's another story, but all I can say is that Mike Pelfrey showed a lot of heart by wanting to give it his all last night and that fans are bitter about the loss but the fact is that it was a team loss, plenty of blame to be spread around.

No one is talking about the fact that the Mets only had four hits on the night, two singles by Daniel Murphy (3rd inning) and David Wright (6th inning), and home runs by Jason Pridie and Ike Davis (both HR's were in the top of the 9th inning well after the game was already out of reach).

Carlos Beltran had a golden opportunity to get the ball rolling in the first inning, after Jose Reyes struck out, both Daniel Murphy and David Wright reached on errors. Beltran ground into a double play and the inning was over, and remained hitless on night along with Jason Bay and Jose Reyes, but all that fans are talking about is Pelfrey's anti-Ace pitching, highly unfair.

Frustration after a loss is understandable but keep it in perspective, thats all I ask of my fellow Mets fans.

April is almost over, what have Mets fans learned so far this season?

First of all, I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season, either Passover or Easter.

Its hard to believe that next week is the beginning of May, with that we can look forward to warmer weather, outdoor cooking and better baseball.

The Mets have won four games in a row, it seems like things are finally coming together for the offense since Jason Bay returned last week. Having a middle of the lineup constituted by David Wright, Ike Davis, Carlos Beltran and Jason Bay ensures that a lot of runs are bound to score on a regular basis.

David Wright has five stolen bases and five home runs, which for the month of April is great considering he had an 0 for 20 slump but now it seems it is long gone.

Also, the pitching situation seems better with Mike Pelfrey and Jon Niese having good outings after there was some serious concern about both of them either being demoted to the bullpen or sent down to AAA.

The injury bug has hit the team with Angel Pagan and Bobby Parnell going to the Disabled List but hopefully they will return soon. It is hopeful that the team remains somewhat healthy.

Lets keep it going guys, the weather is warming up so baseball should start to be very entertaining.

Hope everyone had a wonderful week and is ready for the weekend. I love the spring with my daffodils and tulips coming out from their hibernation.

I am constantly amazed at how negative baseball fans are when it comes to their team performing badly during a stretch of games.

It is a long season, 162 games to be exact, there are going to be plenty of streaks of 10 or more games that they will lose more than they win, thats just the nature of the game.

Mets fans especially are very hard on their players, myself included at times, but I have vowed that this year I will just take it in stride, game by game, cheer the wins, moan the losses and move on to the next game.

The Mets have lost their last five games, including losing three games in 24 hours to the Colorado Rockies, who are the hottest team in baseball this week.

During the 9th inning of yesterday's first game, David Wright came up to the plate with the bases loaded, two men out and the Mets were down by one run. Keep in mind that they had an early lead and poor pitching and defense gave the lead away.

Wright ended up flying out to the right field warning track after the ball had travelled more than 380 feet and so many fans are calling for him to be traded for "choking" in the clutch. Please, people thats ridiculous, he gave it his best shot and the ball was caught, bad luck yes, choke, not in the least. His statistics will show failure to drive the runs home, but it does not show the effort that was put into the game.

During the first game of the series on Tuesday night, in the first inning, as pictured above, Wright put himself in the position of being in a rundown to allow Daniel Murphy to score. That is something that will never show up in statistics or a box score but there is something to be said for his "I'll distract the fielders, you SCORE the run" philosophy.

So baseball fans, I implore you, take statistics with a grain of salt, they do not tell the whole story.
